Directions / Direzioni

Dear friends,

We know our wedding is a long way to go for some of you and also a new country to explore where English is not the first language, therefore we are trying to get as much information as possible to make your journey planning simpler.

This page gathers information about directions, flights, trains, buses, taxis but please also check the page 'hotels and B&Bs' for places to stay around the area.

The wedding is in small town called Cappella Maggiore in the province of Treviso, about an hour and half from Venice (North-East Italy for those not good in geography..). It's surrounded by mountains (the Prealps), and by Prosecco vineyards, basically Prosecco-Land.

There are few different ways to get here depending on people's preference but we would suggest you come by plane. You can get flights to Venice (Marco Polo) with British Airways - http://www.britishairways.com - or Easyjet - http://www.easyjet.com .

Once you are at Venice airport you will need to get the number 15 bus outside the terminal to Mestre train station as shown and explained in this page http://www.actv.it/ifyouarriveatmarcopoloairport and following the timetable in http://www.actv.it/pdf/urbano/U-15.pdf (Feriale= Monday-Friday - Festivo=Saturday-Sunday -Holiday).

Once you arrive at Mestre train station (they also call it Venezia-Mestre or Mestre SF) you need to get the train to Vittorio Veneto, please check http://www.trenitalia.com/cms/v/index.jsp?vgnextoid=4ddd1a035296f310VgnVCM1000005817f90aRCRD for the timetable. The trains to Vittorio Veneto are either direct or with one change at Conegliano (unfortunately both of these have stops on the way and it takes about an hour). Please bear in mind that the last train from Venice to Vittorio Veneto is at 7:43pm.

Please be aware Italian trains are not like English ones: first of all not always on time so check the number and destinations before boarding; second but very important, once you have purchased the ticket remember to validate it in the little yellow machine or you might get a large fine. The same rule applies for the tickets for buses but you need to validate these inside the bus instead.

For those who like adventure and do not want to be reliant on public transport, you can hire a car at the airport, companies including Avis and Europcar.

A very useful website is http://www.rome2rio.com where you can plan a quick journey and have an idea of how much it would cost by bus, train and taxi. It's very similar to google map and you just need to enter the destinations.

Although we will try to arrange a coach at a set time to get people to the wedding destination from Vittorio Veneto, there are buses and taxis to Cappella Maggiore whether you are staying in Vittorio Veneto or Conegliano.

To get to Cappella Maggiore by bus see the timetable http://www.atm-vv.it/linea_extraurbano_sarmede.html and the bus has the destination Sarmede written on top or http://www.atm-vv.it/linea_extraurbano_caneva.html and the bus has the destination Caneva written on top.

To get around Vittorio Veneto by bus see http://www.mobilitadimarca.it/urbano-vittorio-veneto

For taxi's numbers around Vittorio use:

Taxi posteggio Pubblico: +39 0438 53289 , Via Trento Trieste - Vittorio Veneto (at the train station)

Taxi Giorgio Agnoli: +39 328 937 4630 ,Vittorio Veneto

Taxi Paolo Lazzari: +39 335 6937445 , Vittorio Veneto

If you get lost, just ask people “parla inglese?” and if they say no just use the tried and tested method of talking loudly and slowly to them. If that still doesn't help...use hand gestures.

So... Start to pack your suitcases! See you there!
